5 minutes with Makeup Artist Jess Wigley

5 minutes with Jess Wigley

What made you choose a career in makeup?

I was already in the industry after being a professional dancer and a model,  and after i retired from them both I really missed being around creative people. I decided to see what it was like being on the other side of the camera and just fell in love with it. I had loads of bad experiences from MUA’s and photographers which made me want to try and change that perception among other models and professional dancers.

What’s the best thing about being a MUA?

I get to work for myself and travel all over the UK and beyond. I also like to make people feel good about themselves and see a reflection in the mirror that they love.

What’s the best advice you would give to your clients?

To be open minded. What you see in magazines and on the internet is not reality.

How would you describe your makeup style?

Natural. I’m not into the heavy contouring look of people like Kim Kardashian etc. I like to create a ‘fresh skin’ look on my clients which i feel is probably the most difficult look to create on a client. Almost like they aren’t wearing any makeup.

What is your favourite meal?

Lasagne, Chips and Mayo. With a side salad and some cheesy garlic bread.

Who is your icon?

My mom. She is the strongest person I know. She never judges anyone but she won’t take any rubbish off them either. She is really loving, probably more like my best friend rather than my mom.

Sofa or Gym?

Gym.

What is your favourite way to spend a Sunday afternoon?

I get up and make breakfast, then I’ll head to the gym and come home and make a nice Sunday dinner followed by watching a film snuggled up on the sofa.
