5 Minutes with an Advanced Colour Technician

5 minutes with Allan

How did you get into your hairdressing career?

I started off as a Saturday boy, really enjoyed it, so decided to pursue it. Really wanted a Saturday job whilst I was at school and a hair salon were the first people to get back to me.

What’s the best thing about being a hair colour technician?

I personally feel that you can be more creative as a technician and you can tailor the colours to the client. The best feeling in the world is when I can see a client loves their hair and you can see this when they leave the salon.

What’s the best advice you would give to your clients?

To invest in your hair. The best advice I would give to any clients is to make sure they look after their hair because if they have poor condition hair your colour would never look good and it won’t last as well.

How would you describe your colouring style?

Eclectic, I have taken colour mixtures and techniques from all the different people that I have worked with over the years to create my own style which most importantly allows me to create bespoke colours which are individual to the client.

What is your favourite meal?

Any form of tapas, Italian Spanish Chinese, Thai. Loads of picky dishes.

Who are your icons?

I don’t necessarily have one individual iconic. My colour crush / hair icon is Jayson Gray of Karbon Kyd

Sofa or Gym?

If I’m completely honest it’s the sofa but I’ve been sat on there for too long so at the moment it’s the Gym

What is your favourite way to spend a Sunday afternoon?

I like to get up and go for a walk or run with the dog, whilst my husband Jon cooks Sunday Breakfast. Then I love nothing more then opening a bottle of wine and preparing Sunday lunch for family friends. And then finishing off the wine on the sofa watching a film with my husband Jon.
